The old "octroi" (1928)

Down to the middle of the 20th century, a French octroi had the function of a customs station : its aim was to control the goods entering the town and sometimes to tax them. This was the octroi of the eastern entrance of Landrecies. Actually it's not very old, because it was destroyed in 1918 and then reconstructed in 1928 by Bourdon, a local architect. On the wall, you can see the blazon of the town.
