Faubourg de France ("France's Suburb")

The Faubourg de France neighborhood is scattered along Grand'Rue Street in the east. It is named this way because in former times all the visitors coming from "Ile-de-France" (i.e Paris) had to cross it before entering the town. Before the destruction of the ramparts in 1894, this Faubourg led to one of the two gates of Landrecies : Porte de France ("France's gate"). This gate was located at the place of the current socio-cultural center.
