The Faubourg de France neighborhood is scattered
along Grand'Rue Street in the east. It is named this way because in former times
all the visitors coming from "Ile-de-France" (i.e Paris) had to cross it before
entering the town. Before the destruction of the ramparts in 1894, this Faubourg
led to one of the two gates of Landrecies : Porte de
France ("France's gate"). This gate was
located at the place of the current socio-cultural center.
